Why Drink Golden Milk?

Golden milk is more than just a comforting beverage; it’s packed with potential health benefits:

  • Anti-inflammatory Properties: Turmeric contains curcumin, a compound known for reducing inflammation.
  • Immune Support: With the addition of ginger, cinnamon, and honey, golden milk can help boost your immune system.
  • Digestive Aid: Black pepper, often added to enhance curcumin absorption, also supports digestion.
  • Relaxation: A warm cup before bed can promote restful sleep.

Ingredients

You’ll need the following to make two servings of golden milk:

  • 2 cups milk of your choice (dairy, almond, coconut, or oat milk work well)
  • 1 teaspoon ground turmeric
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger (or 1/2-inch piece of fresh ginger, grated)
  • 1 pinch ground black pepper (enhances curcumin absorption)
  • 1 tablespoon honey or maple syrup
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional, for added flavor) I love to use my homemade bourbon vanilla!
  • 1 teaspoon coconut oil or ghee (optional, for creaminess and better absorption of turmeric’s benefits)
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg (optional, for added warmth)

Instructions

  1. Heat the Milk: In a small saucepan, heat your chosen milk over medium heat until it’s warm but not boiling.
  2. Add the Spices: Whisk in the turmeric, cinnamon, ginger, and black pepper. If using fresh turmeric or ginger, grate them directly into the pan.
  3. Simmer and Stir: Reduce the heat to low and let the mixture simmer for 5-10 minutes, stirring occasionally. This allows the flavors to meld and the spices to infuse into the milk.
  4. Sweeten and Flavor: Stir in honey or maple syrup, vanilla extract and/or coconut oil/ghee, if desired. Mix well to combine.
  5. Strain and Serve: If you used fresh turmeric or ginger, strain the golden milk into a mug to remove any solids. Otherwise, pour it directly into your favorite mug.
  6. Garnish and Enjoy: Optionally, sprinkle a pinch of cinnamon on top or add a swirl of frothed milk for a latte-like finish.

  • Adjust to Taste: Feel free to experiment with the proportions of spices to suit your palate.
  • Make a Paste for Convenience: Mix turmeric, ginger, cinnamon, and black pepper with a little water to form a paste. Store it in the fridge for up to a week and use a spoonful when making golden milk.
  • Add a Dash of Nutmeg: For an extra layer of warmth, include a pinch of nutmeg.
