Golden milk, also known as turmeric latte or haldi doodh, is a soothing and healthful drink rooted in ancient Ayurvedic traditions, made with turmeric, milk, and warming spices to support wellness and relaxation. With its vibrant color and rich flavors, this beverage offers numerous health benefits, thanks to its star ingredient, turmeric. Here’s a step-by-step guide to crafting your own cup of golden goodness.
2cupsmilk of your choice (dairy, almond, coconut, or oat milk work well)
1tspground turmeric
1/2tspground cinnamon
1/4tspground ginger (or 1/2-inch piece of fresh ginger, grated)
pinch of ground black pepper
1tbsphoney or maple syrup
1/2tspvanilla extract (optional, for added flavor)
1tspcoconut oil or ghee (optional, for creaminess and better absorption of turmeric’s benefits)
1/4tspground nutmeg (optional, for added warmth)
Instructions
Heat the Milk: In a small saucepan, heat your chosen milk over medium heat until it’s warm but not boiling.
Add the Spices: Whisk in the turmeric, cinnamon, ginger, and black pepper. If using fresh turmeric or ginger, grate them directly into the pan.
Simmer and Stir: Reduce the heat to low and let the mixture simmer for 5-10 minutes, stirring occasionally. This allows the flavors to meld and the spices to infuse into the milk.
Sweeten and Flavor: Stir in honey or maple syrup, vanilla extract and/or coconut oil/ghee, if desired. Mix well to combine.
Strain and Serve: If you used fresh turmeric or ginger, strain the golden milk into a mug to remove any solids. Otherwise, pour it directly into your favorite mug.
Garnish and Enjoy: Optionally, sprinkle a pinch of cinnamon on top or add a swirl of frothed milk for a latte-like finish.
