The beauty of being 50-something is the ever-increasing face wrinkles and dry skin…..said no one ever! I was not kind to my skin. Being the typical girl of the 70’s and 80’s, I slathered in baby oil and baked for hours in the sun while listening to Casey Kasem’s American Top 40 on the radio. Then came the 90’s, and the invention of the tanning bed! You know what I’m talking about. BUT, I decided better late than never and set a goal for better skin care.
I consider myself a pretty low maintenance girl and frankly, I don’t have the time or patience to slather ten different lotions or potions promising me a more youthful glow. Plus, have you ever read the ingredients list? You need a dictionary to figure out exactly what is in that fancy bottle! As we get older, it takes our skin longer to turn over and regenerate new cells. That is why mature skin tends to look dull. I wanted something that is natural, economical, and works!
Oat flour has excellent exfoliating properties while being gentle on the skin. Oats are hydrating to the skin and reduce skin irritation. Oats are also a skin lightening agent and can brighten uneven skin tones making the skin glow. Olive oil has many vitamins, including A, D, E, and K and is an effective antioxidant that may help prevent or reverse damage from cancer-causing ultraviolet radiation. Olive oil may also help fade age spots by helping skin cells to regenerate.
DIY oatmeal and olive oil face exfoliator instructions:
Add 2 to 3 tablespoons of oat flour to a glass jar. Add enough olive oil to form a thin paste when combined.
Rub a small amount between your fingers and apply to your face in a light circular motion, avoiding the eye area. Add a small amount of warm water and continue with circular motions. Rinse and pat dry. Follow up with your favorite cleanser and moisturizer.
I use this scrub twice a week and like to mix enough for a month’s use to keep it fresh. You can add or reduce the amount to your own preference. Keep the sealed jar next to your bathroom sink or shower for easy access. Give it a try and let me know what you think in the comments below. Thanks for looking and enjoy!
