2 cups whole milk 1 cup heavy cream 1/4 cup sugar 1/4 cup sugar 4 egg yolks 1/2 tsp vanilla 1/2 cup chocolate hazelnut spread (like Nutella) 1/2 cup dark chocolate chips
Combine the milk, cream and 1/4 cup sugar over low heat until the sugar dissolves, about 5 minutes.
Beat egg yolks and 1/4 cup sugar until light yellow and thick.
Add a little warmed milk mixture to the egg mixture to temper the eggs.
Add the egg mixture to the milk mixture and heat until thickened and coats the back of a spoon, about 10 minutes.
Strain the mixture through a fine strainer to remove any lumps. Add hazelnut spread and dark chocolate chips and stir until melted and well combined.
Allow to cool and place in the refrigerator overnight.
The next morning process in your ice cream maker and freeze as per your machine's directions.
Top with hazelnuts and serve immediately or pack ice cream into a freezer safe container and keep in freezer until ready to serve.
